Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Jonglei State Governor, Dr. Riek Gai Kok Diang, has issued an order suspending Puok Nyang Tut Jik from his position as the Commissioner of Akobo County.
The suspension order dated April 17, 2025, a copy of which has been obtained by Sudans Post, cited four main reasons for the Governor’s decision.
Dr. Riek accused Nyang of violating international migration laws by leaving his work station and crossing the border into Ethiopia without obtaining permission from the state authorities.
“You have left your work station and crossed the South Sudan border to Ethiopia without permission from the State Authority, which is a violation of the International Migration laws.” Statement stated.
“On the 9th of April, 2025 you issued a press statement condemning the house arrest of Dr. Riek Machar, then calling for his immediate release and you signed it as the chairperson of SPLM – IO of Bich Area an entity which is not in our constitution and the laws of South Sudan,” he added.
The statement also stated that Deng hosted the Commissioner of Pangak County at the Akobo County Headquarters without notifying the state authorities.
“You have hosted the Hon. Commissioner of Pangak County in your county Headquarters, Akobo, without notifying, informing the government of the State about your meetings in Akobo.” Said Riek.
Gai further directed the Executive Director of Akobo County to immediately take over and manage the affairs of the county following the suspension.
This development comes amidst a period of heightened political tensions in South Sudan as the nation continues to navigate its transitional period.
The reasons cited in the suspension order raise questions about the administrative and political landscape in Jonglei State and the implications for inter-state and national dynamics.
Sudans Post attempts to reach Nyang, the suspended Akobo County Commissioner for comments, were unsuccessful after several phone calls went unanswered.
