Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The governor of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, issued a gubernatorial order on Monday relocating the Nyirol County Headquarters from Lankien to Pading Payam.
The decision, outlined in Gubernatorial Order No. 35/2025 issued on Monday, aimed at decentralizing administration and enhancing service delivery.
The move aimed at improving accessibility to essential public services and strengthening governance at the grassroots level, according to the order.
“This relocation is a deliberate and strategic step toward ensuring that government services are closer to the people,” part of the order reads.
“It demonstrates our commitment to inclusive development, decentralization, and empowering rural communities.”
It said by establishing Pading as the new administrative center, the state leadership seeks to enhance public participation in governance, facilitate service delivery, and advance the policy of “taking towns to the people,” a cornerstone principle of South Sudan’s local governance vision.
It said the relocation is also expected to bring new development opportunities to the area and address longstanding logistical challenges faced by residents in accessing government offices.
The order called on all stakeholders, including community leaders, local government officials, civil society organizations, and development partners, to support the relocation of county headquarters.
It emphasized the need for cooperation and coordination to ensure a smooth transition and effective service delivery in Pading and surrounding areas.
