Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Jonglei State Governor Riek Gai Kok has ordered the immediate relocation of Bor County Headquarters from Bor Town to Baidit payam in a significant move aimed at decentralising administration and enhancing service delivery.

The decision, outlined in Gubernatorial Order No. 19/2025, is effective immediately.

The order, which was issued Monday, cites Article 99(2) (a) of the Transitional Constitution of Jonglei State (2011, as amended) as the legal basis for the relocation.

According to the Governor, the primary objective is to bring government services closer to the people of Bor County.

“This is part of our broader effort to decentralise administrative services and improve accessibility for residents of Bor County,” Governor Riak Gai Kok stated. He emphasised the state government’s commitment to ensuring that essential services are within reach of all citizens.

The relocation to Baidit is expected to significantly impact local governance and community engagement within Bor County. While the full logistical details of the move are yet to be made publicly, the immediate effect of the order suggests a rapid transition.

This development marks a pivotal moment for Bor County, potentially reshaping its administrative landscape and how its citizens interact with their local government.

Most parts of Baidit payam have been deserted due to insecurity, and flooding forced most of the residents to move to Jonglei state headquarters, Bor.

In 2023, more than 30 people were killed and hundreds of heads of cattle were raided after a group of armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative area attacked Angakuei Boma of Baidit payam.

Peter Ajak, a resident of Baidit payam, said the relocation of the county headquarters will enhance resettlement in the area.

“We welcome the decision, resettlement is one of the main reasons, it will help, even Jalle will find it easy to go back home.” Said Peter.

“I have welcomed the decision and am hoping for quick action to move the County HQs to Mach-Deng immediately”, he added.

Recently, the governor visited Baidit Payam along with the senior presidential advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk to launch an agricultural project.
