Jur River: Over 3,000 school-ongoing children miss out on learning

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Education officials in Jur River county of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State say more than 3,000 pupils have missed out on learning after their schools were destroyed by recent floods.

Santo Mawien Majok, the county education director told Radio Tamazuj that five primary schools were closed and pupils relocated to higher grounds.

”What happened in Jur River County is that over 3,540 pupils have been displaced by floods, some of them are staying in open spaces due to strong winds that destroyed the building structures of the schools,” said Santo.

“The number of schools whose roofs have been destructed by heavy winds is seven schools. We have Kangi payam, Marial-Bai payam affected by heavy winds while Kuajiena payam, Hope primary school, and Kuajiena primary schools have also been affected,” he said.

Santo called on the education partners operating in the state to support the renovation of the schools when the waters subside.
