Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir has donated SSP15 million to support the catholic diocese of Torit.
The president also pledged to give the diocese a high-end vehicle –Toyota Land Cruiser to aid in the daily operation of the church.
The Peter and Paul Cathedral – Torit marked 100 years last Sunday.
The president, however, did not attend the event but was represented by Dr Marial Benjamin who conveyed his messages and the pledges.
“President Salva Kiir on behalf of the government, and on behalf of all the people of South Sudan, is going to donate Land Cruiser to the Bishop in addition to the 15 million pounds as the donation for the diocese,” Benjamin told the congression.
Benjamin, however, said the President’s contribution was the government’s support to the church.
Last week, President Kiir donated SSP 600 million ($1 million) at a fundraiser to help in the construction of a learning complex at the University of Juba.
