Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir Mayardit is in the United Arab Emirates’ capital Abu Dhabi, to pay tribute to the fallen leader.
Kiir left the Juba on Monday morning, May 16, the day that South Sudan also celebrates SPLM Day, for Abu Dhabi where he will be expected to deliver his condolences to the family of the late President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
sheikh Khalifa has since been replaced by his cousin Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“The President left left Juba for Abu Dhabi to join world leaders in paying tribute to the late UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahya and to offer his condolences to the new elected President of UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the family and the entire people of the United Arab Emirates,” the statement from the office of the President read.
Sheikh Khalifa passed three days ago, on May 13, 2022, at the age of 73 after a long battle with with kidney.
President Kiir hailed the fallen leader for his input into South Sudan’s peace agreement.
“UAE have stood firmly with South Sudan and worked tirelessly alongside us, as we strive to build our nation.
“His highness was one of the leaders who shared our commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in South Sudan,” said Kiir in a statement.
The government of South Sudan had been eying influx of investors, to resurrect the dwindling economy and create employment to the jobless youth.
