Africa-PressSouth-Sudan. South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged Egyptian businessmen to invest in the world’s youngest nation. Kiir, according to information minister Michael Makuei Lueth, made this call during his meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in Cairo, Egypt last week.

“President Kiir invited Egyptian business people to come and invite in South Sudan,” Makuei who is also the official government spokesman told reporters following a regular cabinet meeting in Juba on Friday.

Makuei said the unity government has created an encouraging environment for investments. “If you want to know my opinion, there is absolute stability in South Sudan and everybody is welcome to invite to South Sudan,” he said.

The call came four months after Egyptian companies conducted a trade fair in the capital, Juba, to showcased business and investment opportunities in South Sudan.

More than 400 Egyptian companies displayed various manufactured products – including processed foods, electronic accessories, and furniture in the five-day trade fair.

The event was organized by the South Sudan Ministry of Investment and Industry, in partnership with the Private Sector in Egypt. It aimed at promoting inter-trade between South Sudan and Egypt through direct engagement of private sectors from the two countries. In 2020, the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and South Sudan amounted to 707,000 dollars.
