Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir met with the South African envoy Mahlodi Sam Muofh to discuss the country’s election preparedness.

According to the information from the Office of the President, the duo talked vastly about the preparations for 2024 elections.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday held a meeting with South African Envoy, Mahlodi Sam Muofh, to discuss the preparations for the general elections in December 2024,” the statement read.

“The head of the state reassured the South African diplomat of his government’s commitment to organize free, fair, and peaceful elections.”

It further noted that the South African ambassador also delivered a message of goodwill from President Cyril Ramphosa, who “said the electoral process will pave the way for a democratic transition for the people of South Sudan.”

At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, James Pitia, met the charge of affairs of the embassy of the South Africa, Luvuyo Mato, in his office on Friday, before the arrival of the special envoy of South African.

According to the statement from the ministry, Pitia assured Mato that any initiatives or proposals from South Africa would be received and taken into consideration.

“We eagerly anticipate the arrival of the special envoy to South Sudan, and they will be warmly received,” Pitia was quoted in the statement.

The government of South Sudan is under the pressure to hold elections amid pressing tasks.
