Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A furious former South Sudan member of national parliament has urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit to remove the governor of the country’s Unity State for allegedly inciting citizens against the order of the president that halted the government dredging project at Nam River.

This morning, hundreds of citizens in Unity State stormed Nam River and started what they call ‘manual dredging’ exercise to remove weeds and mud impeding water flow, something they say will help ease floods that has displaced around 80 per cent of Unity State residents.

But in a statement, Hon. Buay Keake Turoal, a former lawmaker representing one of the constituencies in Unity State in the TNLA claimed that Governor Nguen Manytuil was behind the citizens who decided to take dredging into their own hands and should be dismissed immediately.

“This is unacceptable exercise, the state government of Unity State should be bold enough [against any] opposition to the Presidential order suspending the dredging with the aim of seeking recommendations from experts,” Buay said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.

“The attempt to incite the local population to disrespect the order of the His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit by Unity State Government of Joseph Monytuel Wejang is unacceptable and he should be fired immediately,” he added.

The former lawmaker claimed that the governor “is leading from behind instead of leading from the front. Joseph Monytuel Wejang should have led the people in hand dredging the river by joining them instead of influencing and inciting them.”
