Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed Brigadier General Aduot Ajang Aduot as the new Commissioner General of the country’s customs service.

The appointment was announced on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Wednesday night.

General Aduot replaces Major General Akol Ayii Madut, who was relieved of his duties in August 2022.

General Akol’s dismissal came two years after a presidential economic crisis management committee recommended his immediate removal due to alleged corruption.

Today’s appointment follows the yesterday dismissal of Gen. Majak Akec as the country’s police inspector general.

Akec’s removal occurred amidst speculations of a rumored coup attempt.

He was replaced by former director-general of the department of nationality and passports General Atem Marol Biar.

These changes in the leadership of the customs service and the police force indicate a series of notable shifts within key administrative roles in South Sudan.

A certain section of observers argues that President Kiir’s actions suggest that he is committed to addressing the country’s economic and security challenges by reforming key institutions.
