Kiir travels to Ethiopia for 1-day visit

Africa-PressSouth-Sudan. South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this morning traveled to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa for a one-day state visit and left First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny acting on his behalf in the country, the presidency said in a statement this morning.

According to the presidency statement, Kiir will meet Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and discuss the ongoing conflict in the Ethiopia’s Tigray region as well as bilateral relations between the two countries.

“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit left Juba this morning Thursday 26th August 2021, for a one-day working visit to Addis, Ababa Ethiopia,” the presidency statement seen by Sudans Post reads in part.

“He is expected to meet with the Prime Minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed to discuss issues that will strengthen and deepen the bilateral relations between the two Countries and discuss the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region,” the statement added.

The statement said the president who is accompanied by the minister of foreign affairs, presidential affairs minister and minister of cabinet affairs as well as Jonglei state governor will discuss will discuss issues of bilateral relations between the two countries.

“President is accompanied by the Minister of Presidential Affairs Hon Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon Beatrice Khamisa Wani, Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hon Dr Martin Elia Lomoro and the Governor of Jonglei State Hon Denay Jock Chagor,” the statement said.

“The President is also expected to discuss issues of mutual interest that includes the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of conflict in the Republic of South Sudan,” the statement said.

The statement further added President Salva Kiir “was seen off upon departure at Juba International Airport by the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar Teny.”
