Kiir’s trip to Qatar delayed for 2 weeks as delegation put under 14-day quarantine

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s planned visit to the state of Qatar has been delayed for at least two weeks after one of the ministers visiting Qatar ahead of President Kiir’s visit tested positive, a senior government official in the delegation said.

This comes after South Sudan’s minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation tested positive for the deadly virus. This has forced Qatari authorities to put the team under a 14-day quarantine.

Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, a senior South Sudan official who is also with the team said the team will stay for the two weeks in the Qatari capital Doha until when they can prove that they are free from the virus.

“The minister of foreign affairs has tested positive and because of this we have all been put under Quarantine for about two weeks until we are free from the virus because we will conduct another test then,” the official said.

He said President Salva Kiir’s trip to the Gulf nation has been delayed until when the Qatari authorities prove that the team is healthy to conduct its activities in the area.

“SO, President Kiir will not travel to Qatar as planned because we will have to stay under quarantine and then when that period end, he may be able to visit,” the senior government official further said.
