Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Chairperson of the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture, Lado Lukak, called for the CES Chamber of Commerce to resume their normal activity immediately. He spoke a day after the first deputy of the Chamber, John Lual, issued a suspension and the closure of the Central Equatoria State Chamber of Commerce office.
In an interview with the chairperson of the Central Equatoria Chamber of Commerce, Robert Pitia said the suspension was made after two officers of the chamber station in the Custom Market brought confusion.
“This thing started in the Custom Market between the two chamber officers based in the Customs Market. An officer named Tong is assigned to monitor the people who are selling on the tables in the market because customs is not yet developed, so he started to use the name of the chamber to create problems in the market.”
Pitia said the chamber has the mandate to intervene in the affairs of the market, which is why the state deputy of the chamber is suspended.
“I thought of forming the committee to investigate the issues, but the group which was dismissed, including Tong, went to the National Chamber of Commerce, tabled their complaint and met the first deputy, John Lual because Tong has a connection with Lual and Lual knows him. That is why Lual issued a suspension letter,” he added.
According to Pitia, the deputy chairperson of the National Chamber of Commerce is supposed to investigate and know the background of the issues before taking action, adding that the group threatened to remove him (Pitia) from the position.
“I told them I don’t come there because I want to deliver service to the people, so I don’t care about the position if the deputy of the national chamber wants to remove me.
Pitia said the deputy chair of the Chamber made the decision to suspend the office of the CES Chamber of Commerce without consulting Lukak, who is the chairperson of the National Chamber of Commerce.
Last Friday, the first deputy of the South Sudan Chamber of Commerce, John Lual, issued a letter of suspension and the closure of the Central Equatoria State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture.
The chairperson of the National Chamber of Commerce, Ladu Lukak, overruled the order dated October 13, 2023, by the first deputy chairperson, John Lual, suspending the operation of the State Chamber of Commerce, which contravenes the above-cited provision.
“The office of the chairperson and the subordinate offices to resume their normal operations effective from the date of its signature by the interim chairperson,” the order stated.
