M-GURUSH ventures into new international money transfer turf

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Effective new international remittanceservice will enable m-GURUSH registered customers to send and receive money toseveral countries across the globe using mobile money.

This new mode is to take over from thecurrent one which was equally appropriate but not like the new one expectedsoon. South Sudan’s pioneermobile money platform m-GURUSH ventured into international money transferbusiness to make it easier for cash movement both locally and in the region.

This is an innovative thatseeks to enable customers to conveniently send money across Africa and beyond.The service will benefit m-GURUSH customers, especially the business andtrading communities sending funds from South Sudan to Kenya, Uganda and thegreater East African region.

According to an earlierstatement from the firm, the current service was launched by the then Governorof the Bank of South Sudan Jamal Wani Abdalla. The customers assured to be ableto send money digitally in form of US Dollars or South Sudanese Pounds fromtheir m-GURUSH account from the comfort and safety of their homes.

The internationalremittance service would enable m-GURUSH registered customers to send andreceive money to several countries across the globe using mobile money.

“The service will beparticularly beneficial to the South Sudanese living in East Africa who willnow be able to receive money using the existing mobile money services such asm-Pesa in Kenya and MTN Mobile Money in Uganda. This will further spur socio-economic development in South Sudan and digitally connect South Sudan to herother East African Community counterparts. ” the then Governor of the Bank ofSouth Sudan said.

Depending on the recipient’sdestination, the customer, could either send funds directly to a recipient’sbank account or to a mobile wallet. At the same time, the m-GURUSHInternational remittance service enables the South Sudanese in the diaspora aroundthe world to send money home.

“This is a fast, convenientand secure way to support loved ones by sending funds outside the country orreceiving funds back home f. The service will be accessed by customers dialing*355# on the Zain network and also through the m-GURUSH application which couldbe downloaded from the Google Play Store.” The statement reads in part. M-GURUSH is an M-PESA-likeplatform.

“The way we transfer andmanage our funds has changed drastically in the last few years. Gone are thedays when the only option for sending money abroad was to queue at a counterfor hours on end. Our customers can hold money in USD or South Sudanese Poundsin their m-GURUSH mobile wallet. They can initiate an international remittancefrom either of their m-GURUSH wallet.”Mou Ambrose Thiik, m-GURUSH Chief ofOperations said during the launch of this Service.

“The process of sendingmoney using m-GURUSH is very simple and convenient. Customers will dial *355#and then select ‘International Remittances’ from their m-GURUSH account. As welaunch this service, customers can send money to Kenya and Uganda. We will addmore countries.” He added as he demonstrated how the service works.

The launch of this servicecomes at a time where digital money transfer services such as mobile money andelectronic banking are being advocated for by various governments to curb thespread on COVID- 19.

“We are very excited tooffer this revolutionary service and it demonstrates our long-standingcommitment to providing fast, easy, safe and convenient mobile financialServices to our m- GURUSH customers. Sub Saharan African and South Sudan inparticular is one of the most expensive remittance corridors in the world, aservice such as this one will tremendously bring down the cost of internationalremittances in South Sudan.

From a Fiscal policy standpoint, this service will increasingly position the South Sudanese Pound as acurrency of choice given that a currency earns value from its ability totransact. This service would therefore further strengthen the value of ourSSP.” Mr. Joseph Arinaitwe, Vice President m-GURUSH said.

“Lastly, this InternationalRemittance offering will be highly beneficial especially to the businesscommunity trading between South Sudan and her sister East African memberstates, including ordinary South Sudanese sending funds to friends and familyin East Africa.” Mr. Arinaitwe added.

International remittancesare a lifeline for many people in developing countries. However, the globalflow of these funds continues to happen largely through informal channels. Theresult is less transparency, less security, and fewer benefits for the millionswho rely on international remittances.

To address thesechallenges, m-GURUSH mobile money ‘International remittance service’ will connectbusiness people, friends and relatives of people living in South Soudan fromvarious countries. Through m- GURUSH mobile money, it will be possible to caterto the needs of rural households, women, migrant workers, students and refugeesthus expanding access to the most underserved segments of the population.

m-GURUSH continues tospread its wings across the region and living to its promise of being fast,easy, safe and convenient. The aim of m-GURUSH is also to drive financialinclusion and economic empowerment by enabling enterprise development henceuplifting the living standards of the people in South Sudan and even thoseliving in the diaspora.
