Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The body of South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Manawa Peter Gatkuoth Gual who passed away last Sunday in the Egyptian capital Cairo will be flown back home to South Sudan on Monday, a spokesman for the ministry said.
Gatkuoth died under unclear circumstances on Sunday morning after having been flown to the Egyptian capital from Juba where he had previously visited two hospital within the nights leading up to his demise.
Speaking to Sudans Post this afternoon, Gattiek Wichar, the press secretary for the minister’s office, said the late Manawa’s body will be flown back to the country on Monday afternoon.
“Arrangements are still being made that the minister’s body will be flown back to his home country on Monday afternoon,” Gattiek told Sudans Post on phone from the capital Juba.
“The return of the body was initially set for Friday, but due to issues out of our will and that of the family, the preparations could not be completed and that is why it has been rescheduled to Monday,” he added.
‘Don’t fuel speculations’
Gattiek further denied as “unfounded” claims that South Sudanese ambassador to Cairo was not allowing the family to access medical report written in the aftermath of the minister’s demise saying social media activists should cease from fueling unfounded speculations.
“That report I have seen it somewhere on social media and it is unfounded. There is no reason as to why would the ambassador refuses to handover the medical documents of the minister to the family or the medical report,” he said.
“The reasons behind his death have been communicated to the government of South Sudan and the SPLM-IO leadership and some of the reasons have been communicated to the public by the First Vice President and SPLM-IO Chairman and Commander in Chief Dr. Riek Machar Teny,” he said.
He added: “So, my message is that don’t fuel speculations.”
