Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Governor of Warrap State, Manhiem Bol Malek, has called on the state youth in Juba to shun wrangles and embrace peace.

The governor raised the concerns in the wake of cracks between two camps of Warrap youth living in Juba.

On Wednesday, the youth organised separate events—one under the Gogrial Youth Union and another under the Tonj Youth Union—to celebrate President Salva Kiir’s nomination by the SPLM as flag bearer for the 2024 election.

President Kiir was lined up to attend the events but had to call off his attendance at the last minute due to the simmering division, said Manhiem during his speech.

“The President learned that there are two celebrations on the same day, and these two celebrations are happening in Juba on the same day by the people of Warrap who have divided themselves,” Manhiem said.

He added that President Kiir has appreciated the celebrations conducted by his community but called on them to join hands and work together.

The governor appealed to the youth and Warrap communities in Juba to put their differences aside and embrace peace.

“If we need to do it again (the celebration for Kiir’s nomination), we need to do it as one,” he said.

The governor argued that while there are a huge number of people in the country, there is a need to embrace strong cooperation among themselves.

Governor Manhiem said that as the governor of the state, he was tasked with attending both of the events, adding that they were all organised by the youth from Warrap State in the name of celebrating President Kiir’s nomination.

“President Kiir has divided his deputies between the two events: Vice President Wani Igga has gone to Munuki, where Gogrial youth are conducting their event, while Daniel Awet Akot is attending this programme in Freedom Hall by Tonj Union, where I am attending now, and I will join those in Munuki,” he said.

He appeals to the youth in disputes to shun such ideas of working in different directions.

He promised that he would remain neutral but continue to work with the Warrap youth in Juba to solve their differences and support President Kiir by building peace among themselves, which would later extend to other communities and South Sudan at large.

Leadership wrangles between youth have continued to increase among South Sudanese youth and their institutions, with several efforts made to curtail the disputes but all in vain.
