Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Unity State Governor Joseph Manytuil returned to Juba well equipped to respond to President Kiir’s summons over the accusations bedevilling his administration.
Last week, President Kiir summoned Manytuil just days after he left the capital for Bentiu.
“Governor Joseph Manytuil Wejang has left this morning for Juba after brief calls by H.E President Salva Kiir,” partially read a statement from the Bentiu administration, seen by City Review.
The statement noted that the governor would meet Kiir and brief him on matters related to general security situations in Unity State.
It also noted that the two would also discuss issues related to the clearance of the Naam River and other tributaries as per the resolution of the Council of Ministers.
The governor also came to highlight a few problems facing the flood-displaced people and IDPs residing in Bentiu IDP camp and the southern part of Unity State.
On Tuesday, the Press Secretary of the Governor, Peter Portsix, promised that Manytuil was ready to meet President Kiir by honouring the summon but faced transport problems that he hoped to overcome soon.
The Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, revealed the summons to the media last Friday.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir recalled the governor of Unity State, Joseph Manytuil, to report Juba. He was here, of course, but went back,” Barnaba said.
Manytuil faced criticism after the summary execution of suspects alleged to have killed Mayom County Commissioner, Chuol Gatluak Manime, in July.
The Head of State also summoned the Western Equatoria State governor, Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo, and his deputy, Kennedy Gaaniko, to answer queries over the recent political turmoil in the state.
However, it is still not yet clear when Futuyo and Gaaniko would appear before the appointing authority to have their political and personal differences that have paralysed the state operations solved.
The City Review learnt yesterday that a team comprising of the council of state members was sent to Western Equatoria to assess the situation and issue a report.
