Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Governor Joseph Manytuil has called on UN agencies to intensify support for the flood victims in Unity State.
Manytuil made the request in Bentiu during a meeting with Nicholas Haysom, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
He called on UN agencies to assist the families in need who are affected by the floods that made farming impossible.
He said the people in the camps for internally displaced persons continue to suffer from shortages of food, and health facilities.
Manytuil added that the government’s efforts to support the flood victims were overwhelming due to the huge numbers.
He appealed to UNMISS to support the lifting of the arms embargo to allow the deployment of forces to solve insecurity.
He blames the lack of guns in the hands of recently graduated forces as the reason behind continued insecurity in the States.
“The graduation of the Necessary Unified Force with sticks is another setback to maintaining laws and orders when the civilians are heavily armed,” Manytuil said.
On the other hand, Haysom emphasized the need for parties to the agreement to fully commit themselves to the implementation of Revitalised Peace Agreement.
The UNMISS boss urged the state government to deploy more judges in the state to hold perpetrators of communal conflict in Unity State accountable.
