Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Maridi National Teachers’ Training Institute has on Friday graduated its first batch of trained teachers in the college’s history.
The Graduation Exercise was one of the government’s historic initiatives, as most South Sudanese appear to have abandoned the teaching profession due to inadequate salary.
Addressing the graduates in Maridi, Awut Deng, South Sudan’s National Minister of General Education and Instructions described the graduation as a step toward improving the country’s education system.
“In the last two years, we have embarked on a transformation process to improve access and quality education, particularly teacher training programs like today, which we believe will enhance the education system in the country,” Minister Awut said.
She stated that Maridi Teachers’ Institute will always be at the core of government transformation, emphasizing the institute’s commitment to training it for a brighter future.
“My advise to instructors is that you are, of course, equipped with tools that will allow you to effectively give great education. As the primary pillar, you bear significant responsibility for steering our educational system in the proper direction,” she emphasised.
According to Awut, the minister, teachers are responsible for improving learning results across the country. “Of certainly, our country’s education system is deficient and has to be strengthened.”
Less than 20 educated teachers received certifications in education, whereas more than 50 new pupils were admitted.
Senior government leaders from both the state and national levels attended the graduation ceremony.
Joseph Bakasoro, the National Minister of Public Service and Governor of Western Equatoria State, were among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony.
