City Mayor over the weekend pointed out that he did not ban youths from selling or consuming alcohol in the city rather executed necessary restrictions on sales and consumption of the beverages.
Speaking to Juba Monitor over the weekend, City Council Mayor, Michael Lado Allah-Jabu said that alcoholism has been one of the practices youths undertake in the city assembling them to easily commit crimes of all levels and other bad acts.
‘’I did not ban the youths from alcohol but to restrict the consumption rate. It is true that alcohol is one of the practices that our youths are doing and once they become influenced, they tend to do bad things, therefore, I felt that I should restrict them’’ Michael said
He furthermore, reiterated that alcohol of all kinds is only restricted to be sold in bars, wholesales, big restaurants, hotels such that underage boys faced difficulties accessing.
‘’I also issued a local order in order to see that alcohol of all kinds is only restricted to be sold in bars, alcohol wholesales, big restaurants, and hotels such that underage boys face difficulties in getting access to them. As a city, some people look at alcohol as not an issue to them rather we have to manage them’’ Michael added
However, added that Juba is one of the big upcoming cities in the world that can’t ban the youth from alcohol consumption rather put measures to ensure that the consumption was correctly done and people respected themselves while taking.
‘’People should not take this decision negatively since Juba being one of the emerging cities in the world have people who believe that consuming alcohol can’t affect them much. We have to ensure that consumption of the beverage is correctly done, he said
He also pointed out that his office was working hard towards making Juba city a sustainable environment to the citizens and visitors through continuous environmental cleaning, improving the road infrastructure, and others.
Michael stressed that city council set a strategy to ensure that all public taxis operating in the town bear uniform paint or color to manifest the uniqueness of the city towards transportation
‘’We are working on the issue regarding our taxis in the town. We have set a strategy to ensure that all taxis bear one paint or color to set uniqueness of the city’’ He added
Michael stated that the local orders made were for the security and benefits of the people in the Country.
