Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Western Equatoria State Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports is calling on interested individuals to apply for the vacant positions of the youth union.
David Simbi, the state minister of culture, youth and sports, said in his Christmas and New Year message that he is committed to ensuring that the union is restructured next year.
Last month, the minister ordered the dissolution of the union.
“We dissolved the union because the people who were leading the union were of a young age and could not focus on the affairs and challenges facing western Equatoria State,” he revealed.
“I am requesting all young people to show their interest and contest because new youth leaders will come through the ballot, not appointments.”.
Simbi said there is a plan for an election next year to elect the leaders who will travel to Torit, Eastern Equatoria State for the youth conference.
“If youth can organise themselves, they will be able to write their projects, solve their differences politely and protect each other from being deceived by false politicians,” he said.
In addition, he said that his ministry would not interfere with the union, saying the union is an independent body that aims to address issues pertaining to the youth.
He said in the upcoming youth general election, five people aged 35 and below per county will participate.
