Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The newly elected president of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA), Monicah Nyareng Malith, said she is proud to be South Sudanese even as she flies the flag on the international stage.
Nyareng broke the record last week when she became the fifth UNSA president and the third female to hold the prestigious and powerful leadership of the student body.
Her rare achievements make her the only South Sudanese to have held the post.
She promised that her regime would be based on transparency and accountability.
“I am excited and ready to work alongside every one of you to make this academic year a success. Today, diversity wins, today inclusivity wins, today integrity wins. Today, the University of Nairobi wins,” she said.
“And to my beloved country, your daughter is proud of you. I credit my win to you as a nation,” she said.
She became the third female student from the Faculty of Law to lead the UoN student body and the first international student to hold the position.
“Young but mature in the brain, this is one of the rare fête in the history of the University of Nairobi, and South Sudanese in academia are proud of you,” Yar Atem Aruei posted on Facebook after hearing about her victory.
