Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A local youth from Eastern Equatoria is calling on the state ministry of health to revoke the appointment of Torit Health Institute principal.
The youth, under the auspices of the “Union of Monyomiji” termed as ‘illegal”, the installation of new head of the institution.
The new principal, whose name has been protected on security grounds, was meant to replace Isaac Nimeri John who was suspended last year due to the students’ strike over increased tuition.
In a letter seen by The City Review, Monyomiji said the recruitment of the unnamed principal was unprocedural.
“The declaration lacks any legal procedure such as advertisement, applications, vetting selection, approval, and acknowledgment,” he claimed.
They argued that there was no advertisement nor public participation, done in the recruitment process.
The chairperson for the Union of Monyomiji, Johnson Sereno Omojo said, “The union was shocked by an opaque announcement.”
Omojo said the union will still continue to lobby and advocate for the cancellation, adding that the appointment did not meet any requirement of the South Sudan Labour Act 2017.
“It has breached Chapter (v) section 36 of this of the employment act which to our views is a complete violation of the labour law of South Sudan,” he added.
Omojo vowed that the Monyomiji will not give up but remains firm in fighting the unjust employment.
When contacted, Lodae Pascal Wayokori, the state minister of health confirmed receiving the letter but declined to comment on the matter.
“I can’t comment anything now because I want to consult with the ministry of public services on who received the letter but technical, I would not say something,” he said.
