Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Unity State Governor Joseph Monytuil has joined his counterparts in Eastern Equatoria State and Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) in endorsing President Kiir as the party’s flag bearer in the planned 2023 general elections.
On Saturday, Governor Monytuil made the announcement days after NGBS Governor Ngor made a similar declaration in political mobilisation by the party’s Secretary-General, Peter Lam Both in the state capital, Bentiu.
“SPLM Unity State Interim Chairperson Cde Dr Joseph Manytuil Wejang has on Saturday endorsed Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit as “Flag Bearer” of SPLM in the upcoming general election,” read a press release by the office of the governor on Sunday.
It added, “In addition, Cde Monytuil stressed that despite the conflict that engulfed and impedes (sic) the party activities across the State, SPLM is emerging stronger than ever before in Unity State, dwelling on providing basic services to the people of Unity State.”
On Thursday last week, Governor Ngor declared President Kiir the official presidential candidate in the upcoming general election and called on all the SPLM party members and the general public to rally behind the President.
At a political rally at Aweil Freedom Square, Lam hailed the state SPLM leadership for its role in mobilising and recruiting 723 members into the SPLM party and urged them to bring more followers.
Lam is now on tour to all ten states and three administrative areas to assess the SPLM restructuring levels according to the party structures of 2008. This is from the Boma, Payam, county, and state to the national level, as well as to invigorate the registration of the party’s members.
In early January this year, the Vice President and also the Deputy Chairperson of the Party, Dr Wani Igga advised all parliamentarians representing constituencies in Central Equatoria State to deliver services to qualify in the eyes of the people and to make it through the forthcoming elections.
The Vice President also called on his party members to intensify their efforts to unite the people so that the party can retain power in the 2023 elections.
Despite being optimistic about the SPLM’s victory in the upcoming elections, Dr Igga said the party leadership should begin to work for the happiness and prosperity of the people of South Sudan.
