Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Youth Union in Wau of Western Bahr el Ghazal State has received ten desktop computers to advance computer literacy among the youth there.
The donation made by MTN Telecommunication Company also included a one-year free internet service to avail online training for the Youth Union members in the state.
Helda Hidanga Vitale Aburi, the Head of Human Resources and Corporate Services at MTN telecom in South Sudan said the computer center run by the Youth Union will be open to all.
“We came today to open this center to help the youth get jobs, everything is through the internet and if you don’t have internet, it will be a problem for the youth to get a job,” Helda said. “They should be trained, they should know basic computer skills and can do browsing and also apply for a job. We aim to see that people are trained in this center regardless of their color, tribe, or nationality, it’s open for all.”
On his part, the Youth Union Chairperson David Lawrence appreciated the support and appealed for continued support in the maintenance of the equipment.
He also urged the youth to use the computers responsibly, saying past donations cannot be accounted for.
Meanwhile, the state information minister Samuel Nicola urged the youth to make good use of the center and acquire the necessary skills.
“Maybe this is the first time in the state that one of the telecom companies does something for the community, and we know the idleness of the youth in the state. It is a considerable effort and we know that we have youth gangsters and partners are trying to transform them,” he said. “My message to the youth is that they should make maximum use of the center, you are illiterate if you don’t know computer. This is a challenge and I want to tell the youth of Western Bahr El Ghazal state that it’s not them alone, even I am coming here.”
