Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Margaret Fozia Emmanuel, Commissioner of Mundri East Area in Western Equatoria State (WES), issued a local ordinance establishing every Friday in the county as a compulsory cultivation day.

In a document issued by the office of Mundri East County, seen by The City Review, Commissioner Fozia, instructed all citizens in the area to mark Fridays as a special day for cultivation.

“In the exercise of power conferred upon me by the republic decree No. 17/2021 dated February 25, 2021 read together with local government Act 2009 section 52 (c.i.j), I Hon. Margaret Fozia Emmanuel, Commissioner of Mundri East County, do hereby issue commissioner order No. 08/2022 for the announcing of Friday as cultivation day for the people of Mundri East County,” the order reads.

The commissioner further directed all the heads of county departments, community leaders, the youth, and the entire citizenry of Mundri East County adhere to the order.

According to the commissioner, Fozia, it is high for the public to start farming in order to have enough food in the area, adding that if people emphasised agriculture in the area, hunger would be eradicated.

Mundri East County is one of the counties in Western Equatoria State’s Eastern Counties, with fertile soil and consistent rainfall that used to produce good food year after year, particularly maize, groundnut, caravan, and other similar crops.
