Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) handed over a newly constructed county police headquarters in Nagero, Western Equatoria State, on Friday.
The facility, completed under the UNMISS Quick Impact Project, cost $50,000 and aims to ensure law enforcement and community safety.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on behalf of the UNMISS Yambio field office, Tshienda Papy Christian, Civil Affairs Officer, praised the collaboration between UNMISS and the state government, led by Governor Alfred Futuyo and his deputy, Elia Richard.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to support Western Equatoria despite geographical challenges, we urge the community to maintain this facility to help reduce crime rates” he stated.
The deputy governor expressed gratitude for UNMISS’s efforts, urging citizens to protect the new assets and collaborate with partners to have more service delivery in the area.
“This initiative mirrors our vision of bringing development to rural areas, let us focus on agriculture and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
Futuyo called on the community to prioritise peace and unity over criminal activities that cannot bring transformation to their area.
“We must distance ourselves from crime; the state will not tolerate it, hard work and adherence to the law are essential for attracting further development,” he warned.
The new police headquarters is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering peace, enabling residents to focus on agriculture and economic growth.
