National Bureau of Standards Signs WFP Deal for Lab Renovation

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has signed an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to support the renovation of the bureau’s laboratory.

In a statement issued yesterday, the bureau said the partnership will improve laboratory services and contribute to trade facilitation, food safety, and overall quality assurance across the country.

The agreement will also support the renovation and equipping of laboratory facilities, enabling the bureau to safeguard public health and ensure compliance with national standards.

Gloria Nyoka, executive director of the bureau, commended the WFP for its continued support and reiterated the bureau’s commitment to building strong and sustainable partnerships to advance public health protection and quality infrastructure development in South Sudan.

The SSNBS is a government agency that develops and enforces national standards for quality, safety, and trade to protect consumers and promote fair commerce.

Its activities include product testing, certification, market surveillance, metrology, and capacity building, ensuring goods meet national and international standards for economic development.

The bureau continues to intercept poor-quality and faulty products at border points across the country.

This week, it destroyed about 2,000 cartons of spoiled chicken confiscated from Nimule border point on their way to Juba.
