Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) SPLM Liberation Council has unanimously endorsed President Salva Kiir as the party flag bearer for the 2024 elections.
The decision was reached during the first ordinary sitting of the Interim State Liberation Council held on Saturday.
“The members of the State Liberation Council have enormously endorsed and nominated the incumbent SPLM Chairman, Cde. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, as the official Presidential Candidate in the 2024 general elections,” the council noted in a statement.
Also, the council recommended the passed memo for interim arrangements on structures and appointment of the officials at different levels as a move to improve performance in the state.
They recommended recommitment to the revitalised peace agreement to achieve full implementation of the agreement.
In his closing remark during the SPLM Council meeting over the weekend, Governor Tong Akeen Ngor, who is also the SPLM Interim Chairman of Northern Bahr El Ghazal, appealed to the council to support the peace agreement.
“I appeal to all of you to work for the interests of the people in the state and to support the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement,” Ngor said.
He called on the members to recommit themselves to the provision of services to the people of the state.
He emphasised and urged the members of the SPLM to promote peace, unity and a spirit of comradeship among themselves as a way to realise development in the area.
Governor Tong reiterated the need for the members to engage with the idea of taking services to the people in the rural areas, adding that it is the vision of the ruling that needs to be implemented.
Ngor acknowledged the tremendous efforts employed by the SPLM Interim Secretary General in reviving the activities of the party in all the states and administrative areas in the country.
He called on SPLM members to accept responsibilities, saying the liberation council’s task is to ensure the party’s progress.
He promised to maintain peace in northern Bah el Ghazal state.
