Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Northern Bahr el Ghazal government said it is planning to build some classrooms and facilities at a foundation hosting orphaned and unaccompanied children in the state.
The plan was announced after Governor Tong Akeen Ngor visited the New Jerusalem Family Homes on Monday, June 26, to assess the children’s situation.
The center – housing 97 children including 17 girls and 80 boys – is reportedly faced with numerous challenges including inadequate classrooms, school and sports materials.
They are also suffering from health conditions, food shortages, and inadequate water, among other essential services.
“H.E, Governor Tong Akeen Ngor donated food and nonfood items to orphans and unaccompanied children in New Jerusalem Family Homes and promised them of his full commitment to continue supporting them,” reads a statement from Aken’s office.
“Additionally, he promised to build some classrooms for the school, which shall help for accommodations of more children in New Jerusalem.”
The governor reportedly encouraged the children to forsake their street lifestyle, be committed to school programs, and have faith in the future.
