Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Director of Juba International Airport says 22 solar-powered streetlights have been installed along the airport road to improve security and visibility for motorists at night.
Engineer Kat Mosety said the lights were installed from Crown Hotel and the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority headquarters to the main entrance gate of Juba International Airport.
Each streetlight is rated at 60 watts and operates on a 24-volt DC system.
In a social media post, Engineer Mosety said the project is aimed at improving safety along the busy road, especially during nighttime hours.
“Today, we successfully installed 22 solar lights, each rated at 60 watts / 24 volts DC, along Airport Road from Crown Hotel and the SSCAA headquarters to the JIA main entrance gate. This installation will significantly improve security and nighttime visibility for drivers using this route,” he said.
Airport Road is one of the main transport routes in Juba and is frequently used by travellers, airport staff, and commercial vehicles.
Authorities say the new solar lighting is expected to help reduce road accidents and deter criminal activities. The lights also provide a reliable and sustainable source of lighting.
The project is part of ongoing efforts by airport management and other relevant authorities to improve infrastructure and safety around Juba International Airport.
