Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) is calling on South Sudanese to rally behind the government and help implement the remaining chapters of the revitalised peace agreement.
“There are no shortcuts, we need to rally behind the parties to the agreement. We need to work hard with the government of National unity to make sure that the agreement is implemented,” said activist Ajang Nyanhom.
Nayanhom made the remakes during the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) extraordinary meeting that endorsed the roadmap Thursday.
RJMEC on Thursday endorsed the 24-month extension period of the peace deal by the parties to the revitalised agreement.
Nyanhom said that the society wishes to see the country hold a free and democratic election at the end of the transition.
“These are the parties who have been fighting and they have agreed to work together, they have agreed to extend the life span of the agreement for another 24 months and this is the way forward,” he explained
“For example the current MPs in the parliament, they have just joined the parliament, I don’t they were serious and also I don’t see the executive preparing for elections,”
“Politicians can only be accountable if they are subjected to a ballot,” added Nyanhom.
The roadmap also received support from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) which emphasized its commitment to supporting peace in South Sudan.
“What choice do we have but to support the roadmap?” Ismail Wais, IGAD’s Special Representative to South Sudan said.
