Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, Linken Nymann Berryman, has urged the government to expedite the country’s full implementation of the peace agreement.

“With respect, I urge the Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) to focus on the difficult tasks and expedite the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS),” the ambassador stated.

Amb. Berryman stated in her remarks on South Sudan’s 12th Independence Anniversary that Freedom Day signifies a watershed moment in the country’s history. She lamented that the country’s independence came at a tremendous cost.

“We commend and lift up all those committed to upholding the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights,” she added.

“Throughout the long conflict for independence, there have been many efforts to support peace and prosperity for everyone in this beautiful land.”

Berryman underlined Norway’s commitment to cooperating with the people of South Sudan to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for all.

However, she called on leaders to show political commitment to fully implement the peace deal in text and spirit.

South Sudan has 17 months to the 2024 elections but there are still key tasks pending in the implementation of the peace agreement.
