Africa-Press – South-Sudan. At least 16 members of the Sudan People Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) in Guit County, Unity State, have defected to the SPLM-IG on Monday.

Speaking to The City Review, Gany Chigai, Chairperson of the SPLA-IO in Guit County,

Noted that they joined SPLM because Dr. Machar does not attend to them amid the soaring difficulties in Unity State.

“We are 16 members and the reasons why we have decided to defect from Sudan people Liberation Movement in opposition SPLM-IO was because were abandoned without clear mission, mandates and updates,” Chigai said.

He added, “And in any place that you are not considered, there is no need for you to waste your time in that place.”

Chigai said all they want is a leader who can prioritize development and restore peace in the county.

“We have defected to Sudan people Liberation Movement in government and we need a developmental leader who can bring lasting peace, development such as hospital and schools in Unity state and in Guit County,” he stated.

He lamented that civilians are almost giving up living because the country is not transitioning in any way.

Chigai emphasized that it time people should ready for December polls to elect the leader of their choice.

“If leaders are not tired of war, civilians are tired of distracted war. It’s time for peace, unity and time for South Sudanese citizens to elect leaders they want,” he stressed.

He appealed to the South Sudanese citizens to participate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
