Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Governor Tong Akeen Ngor has procured 80 trucks of sorghum from Sudan.
This is part of the government’s program to boost food security in South Sudan, particularly in flood-hit Unity and Northern Bahr El Ghazal States.
Governor Ngor revealed that a convoy of more than 80 trucks loaded with sorghum, is expected to arrive in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) of Aweil in the coming days.
This comes after last week’s visit by governor to Suda’s regions of Ngor visited Sinja, Sennar State, and Umruaba in Northern Kordofan.
His visit was prompted by the recent coordination and mobilisation by Tut Gatluak, the presidential Advisor for Security Affairs, for the supply of food products affected areas in South Sudan, particularly the states of Bahr el Ghazal and Unity State.
“I express my gratitude to the leaders of these two great nations for agreeing to open the two borders to allow free circulation of products, which will alleviate our people’s suffering. I believe this is a great step towards increasing the number of food items as well as reducing the prices of food items in communities in the area if those trucks arrive safely,” Ngor said.
He thanked Sudan’s government for its unwavering support and cooperation with the government and people of South Sudan, stating that only through such cooperation will the two countries be able to address and overcome their economic issues.
He said that the first convoy, consisting of over 80 trucks, will arrive in South Sudan in a week or less and that others will follow.
Khalid Mahmed Eltom, acting governor of Sennar and Northern Kordofan states, expressed gratitude to the two sisterly countries for undertaking such significant initiatives to promote inter-trade between the two communities.
“As the government of Sudan, we are pleased with the opening of our borders, and we will do everything in our power to completely support the government of South Sudan in all essential ways,” he assured.
Meanwhile, in Sennar and Blue Nile states, the Director of the Sudanese Agricultural Bank, Ahmed Ali, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to working closely with the South Sudanese committee overseeing the first consignment of food goods.
