Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Pibor football team defeated Aweil North 2-0 in the ongoing Aweil Martyrs Tournament to advance to the semi-finals.
Sunday Ojulu scored in the 25th minute on Omot Sebit’s corner kick, leaving Coach Chol Nyok’s side in a bind as Pibor settled their game in the first half.
Coach Hari Abubakar’s team got their second goal in the 38th minute, thanks to striker John Bush’s goal.
It marks their second consecutive victory, and they became the first team to book a ticket from Group B to the tournament’s semi-finals.
The Pibor’s two first-half goals were enough to knock the flying Aweil North off the table.
As of now, Pibor leads the log with six points after two games. Aweil North sits second with three points, and Aweil South and East are third and fourth with three and zero points, respectively.
Aweil South and Aweil North will have to fight for second place in order to advance to the semi-finals when they meet on Wednesday in their final group matches.
The first-ever Aweil Martyrs football tournament has eight teams. The tournament was specifically arranged for Great Aweil counties and brought in two counties, Pibor and Gogrial East, to make a total of eight teams in two groups.
The competition’s major goal is to bring together the great Aweil communities, particularly the youth.
