Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Piny Luo: Regional Luo Cultural, Heritage, and Leadership Conference, which draws participants from six nations, including South Sudan, is set to convene in Migori County, Kenya, from December 15 to 18, 2025.
The Luo are a Nilotic ethnic group residing in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The conference expects to attract a diverse group of participants from these six countries and the diaspora.
The Piny Luo: Regional Luo Cultural, Heritage, and Leadership Conference will focus intensely this year on empowering young Luo leaders and promoting inclusive, sustainable development.
According to Dr. Mo Ahawo, CEO of Luo Global Reunion, the conference—organized by leaders from the four Luo counties—aims to celebrate Luo culture and heritage while driving socioeconomic progress and fostering regional unity.
The four-day event will feature a diverse and comprehensive agenda, including cultural celebrations with traditional performances and music.
It will be an opportunity to share knowledge during academic sessions and specialised business forums, youth focus discussions and regional sports activities, as well as high-level discussions with dignitaries and diplomats from Eastern Africa and the diaspora.
The statement stated that a preparatory Youth Country Directors Training will precede the conference, taking place in Kisumu from December 12th to 14th, 2025.
According to Dr Ahawo, this specialized training will involve participants from six nations and focus on developing leadership skills, civic responsibility, and regional collaboration among emerging leaders.
The 2024 Piny Luo conference was a high-profile success, attended by heads of state, including Kenyan President William Ruto, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, and South Sudanese Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior.
The event, hosted by Rt. Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga, also saw the participation of various regional government ministers and diplomats.
Building on this momentum, the 2025 conference anticipates increased participation from regional heads of state, policymakers, professionals, and international partners.
The organizers affirmed the event’s mission: “We’re honored to host this transformative event…to reflect on our shared history, elevate our cultural identity, and empower the next generation of leaders.”
The conference’s core objectives are to celebrate and preserve Luo cultural heritage, promote discussions on issues affecting Luo communities globally, enhance unity, encourage cross-border cooperation, and expand networking with non-Luo communities.
