Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Close to 2000 pupils from seven government schools in Bor County are set to receive free stationeries from the Chinese government.

The donation was funded by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation through the Chinese Embassy in Juba.

Dr. Gatwech Koak, Secretary-General in the office of the Governor of Jonglei State, hailed China for donating school materials to the pupils to the At least 1,832 pupils.

He said the state government will ensure the donated materials reach the rightful owners.

“Today, I am happy that the children have received the donation. So, I would like to say the Chinese government and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation should continue to support the program, “Koak said.

The Director-General in the state ministry of education, Rut Yal Nyuon, applauded the help offered by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation.

Mr. Yal said the environment has not been favourable for studies due to a lack of infrastructure.

“We are doing our level best to ensure those challenges are addressed, like the fencing of the school and the renovation of the classes in the school here,” Yal said.

Abraham Mayol Jok, the headteacher of the school, said the pupils were lacking some school materials such as bags and books, among others.

Mayol said the school lacks adequate classrooms, which makes it hard for learners to embrace their studies.

“The partnership between the people of South Sudan and the government of China is the best and we hope for more in the educational sector.” The gift we received today will encourage children to come to school,” Mayol said.
