Rak Media Group prepares Easter treat for Juba orphanage

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Rak Media Group gave an Easter holiday treat to Straight Link Orphanage Centre in Juba by donating food and non-food items.

The items donated included 20 bags of 50 kg of beans, 26 bags of sugar, 10 bags of salt, 10 jerricans of cooking oil, onions, cowpeas, tomatoes, rice, maize flour, and six goats, among other items.

Lapok Patrick, the chairperson of the Straight Link Orphanage Centre, welcomed the donations made on Saturday, adding that he was worried about getting any help.

At the time the consignment arrived at the centre, there was only an approximate 100 kilogrammes of cereals to feed the tens of children milling in the compound that day.

“The situation was going out of hand, as you can see how the store is empty. I have been wondering now what is next for these children. I didn’t know who to contact for help,” he said, as he pointed to the sack of maize placed on the floor.

Patrick said he had contacts for a couple of friends in his notebook, and fortunately, he found the one for Rak Media Manager and just made one phone call.

“I am very happy now that the food is brought to us by the Rak Media group. As you can see, the children are running around very happy seeing this care with a lot of food items, and we give a lot of thanks to them for putting smiles on our faces,” Lapok said.

Children, most of them below 12 years of age, are the majority here. They moved around, trying to get a glimpse of what was coming from the truck as the items were being offloaded from it.

Apart from shelter, the centre also provides learning facilities for children from kindergarten to primary eight. It provides other basic services to the children through donations from well-wishers.

According to Lapok, the centre was previously able to accommodate up to 500 children.

But Lapok stressed that when the food was finished, some children decided to go back to the street. He stated that they are currently only able to accommodate 78 children. For him, juggling the hats of a parent, a guardian, and a breadwinner for these young, innocent children is what his life has revolved around for the past decade.
