S. Sudanese national killed in US, police arrest culprit

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. US police have charged a man with the murder of a 22-year-old South Sudanese man in Iowa State.

Dok Nyok Akol Dok was shot and wounded in Des Moines, Iowa State on Saturday, October 22.

Police had located the victim on Saturday morning, in what was first pereived as a car crash in the 1500 block of 11th Street in Des Moines. The law enforcement officers later discovered him with gunshot wound.

He had remained in critical condition until Wednesday night, when he passed on at Iowa City hospital.

The police later investigated and found that his assailant was certain 18-year-old Christopher Wessels Jr. and arrested him on Monday.

“Yes, we received this news with a heavy heart and it’s very sad, the death of our nephew the son of our sister, Dok Nyok Akol Dok in the circumstances of an incomprehensible incident,” said Dr. Ali Yousif Ngor, an uncle to the deceased.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Friday, Yousif said the family received Dok’s remains for burial.

“He was shot and we are waiting for the final report of the police. Yesterday (Thursday) they received his body and today they will bury it, and here we have the funeral rite in Hai Referendum in Juba,” he said.

“After he was in Intensive Care Unit for almost six days, he died yesterday, and until now, the circumstances of this incident is unknown. We hope that the Lord will accept him well, and the investigation and justice will go well.”

Dok, was a graduate of high school and a first-year student at a university in the US. His parents are Engineer Nyok Akol Dok and Madam Harbiea Yousif Ngor Jok.
