Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A die-hard senior National Congress Party (NCP) member joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Eastern Equatoria State on Saturday.

According to the statement seen by The City Review, Anthony Primato, who is considered the brain behind NCP in Eastern Equatoria, declared his support for President Salva Kiir.

It is the latest NCP defection to South Sudan’s ruling party SPLM since independence.

“As a senior member of NCP on this date of 2nd August 2023, I declare allegiance and shifted to the mighty mother party SPLM under President Salva Kiir Mayardit,” Anthony said.

He promised to work together with SPLM to mobilise more people into SPLM in Eastern Equatoria state.

He said his decision was for nation-building because he is heading to a party led by President Kiir.

Governor Louis Lobong, the Chairman of SPLM Eastern Equatoria State, welcomed Primato saying his decision was good for the occasion as it would help in the implementation of the agreement.

Lobong welcomed anybody who wants to join SPLM in the state, adding that the doors of SPLM are widely open to all the citizens of South Sudan.

The SPLM Eastern Equatoria State Spokesman, Siro Silvio Ewak, said the party had embarked on serious mobilisation as the election drew near.

He added that the party is ready for the endorsement rally scheduled to take place in Juba.

Lobong called for a huge turnout of party members and citizens in the Equatoria region.

“We are informing SPLM members and the people of Equatoria to turn up in big numbers for the historical rally due to take place in Juba in the coming days”, Lobong said.
