Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The 11th edition of the South Sudan Cup begins next week, with Juba champions El Merriekh FC facing Western Equatoria giants Yambio Stars.

The two teams will face off for the first time as they eye the finals of the 2022–2023 South Sudan Cup.

Yambio Stars has represented Yambio Local Football Association in every edition, but the team has struggled to make it to the championship finals.

The ninth and tenth editions were the worst for the Juba representative since Amarat United and Munuki FC, who represented the city boys in various seasons, were eliminated by teams from other states.

Three groups—A, B, and C—will compete in the games. Nine teams are expected to compete in Group A in Rumbek, while the same number of teams will compete in Group B in Juba. Group C will consist of three teams.

Other clubs competing in group B in Juba include Salam FC of Bor vs. Atlabara FC of Yei, El Merriekh FC of Bentiu vs. Young Star of Torit, New Nation FC of Maridi vs. Nile Eagle of Nimule, and Wehida FC of Terekeka, which will wait for the winner between New Nation of Maridi and Nile Eagle of Nimule.

All Group B matches will start at 3:00 p.m., Juba local time, at Buluk Playgroup.

The biggest matchup in Group A will take place on January 24 between El Merriekh FC of Wau and Salam FC of Aweil, and one team will be eliminated.

Other teams are Gunzaka FC of Rumbek, Alei United of Twic, Genanyoun FC of Tonj, Nahla FC of Raja, Mabil FC of Wanyjok, Alei FC of Yirol, Mabil FC of Wanyjok, Mabil FC of Yirol, and the winner of Burtit FC of Yirol and Mabil FC.

Malakal teams in Group C include Nujum Al Souma of Melut, Al Tahrir FC of Renk, and Noor FC of Nasir, which awaits the winner of these two matches.

The champions of the three groups will travel to Juba for the final competition.

The competition’s winner will get $20,000, while the runners-up will receive $10,000, and the third-place finisher will receive $5,000.
