South Sudan, Norway discuss election preparations

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Goc, met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Norway, Motzeldt Kravik, and discussed South Sudan’s preparedness for the upcoming elections in December.

Ramadan Goc assured Norway of South Sudan’s willingness to collaborate as the country prepares for the December polls, adding that there is a need to reconstitute the three remaining commissions as per the roadmap.

He praised the Norwegian government for its support to the people of South Sudan and acknowledged the outstanding relations between the two countries.

Ramadan urged Norwegian delegates to reconsider reviving hydroelectric power initiative projects such as the Fula Dam.

He further appealed to Norway for technical support for the upcoming elections and emphasized the importance of training youth and women to enable them to participate in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, Kravik noted that it is crucial to conduct elections according to international standards and human rights principles.

He reiterated Norway’s commitment to a trusted partner to the people of South Sudan as the country for December polls.

The discussion tackled ways to correlate conditions and requirements set by the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
