Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s Inspector General of Police, General Marol Biar, has directed law enforcement agencies in Eastern Equatoria State to take stronger action in response to a recent surge in criminal activity.
Addressing over a thousand police graduates at a graduation ceremony held at Torit’s Freedom Square on Friday, General Biar emphasized the need for immediate action. He underscored the importance of dismantling criminal groups and apprehending their leaders.
“I have outlined three key areas of focus for your deployment. For those individuals who are willing to disengage from criminal activity and return to their communities, we will facilitate that process,” he said.
“However, for those who persist in criminal behavior, they will be apprehended and brought to justice in accordance with the law. Finally, we must identify and apprehend the ringleaders of these criminal groups. These individuals will be transferred to Juba for further investigation and prosecution,” he added.
General Biar pinpointed Nimule and Torit counties as areas experiencing a particular rise in criminal activity. He urged law enforcement agencies to prioritize restoring peace of mind and security for law-abiding citizens in these regions.
“Let me be clear, I expect results,” General Biar told the Commissioner of Police and his team. “The continued presence and operations of these criminal groups is simply unacceptable. We must take swift and decisive action to uphold the law and protect the safety and security of the people of Eastern Equatoria.”
Sharing the Inspector General’s concerns, Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore addressed the graduating officers, emphasizing the importance of impartiality and upholding the law in their service to the community.
“The skills and knowledge you have acquired during your training program will be instrumental in making a positive impact. I will not tolerate any form of criminal activity that disrupts the lives of our people,” Lobong said.
“The recent reports of thefts, vandalism, and violent attacks perpetrated by criminal elements are deeply troubling. I urge you to utilize the training you have received to effectively serve and safeguard our communities,” he added.
Governor Lobong’s remarks reflect growing public anxiety over a rise in crime across Eastern Equatoria. Local law enforcement agencies have documented a surge in incidents including robberies, assaults, and vandalism.
The ceremony marked the graduation of more than a thousand police officers who successfully completed a six-month intensive refresher training program.
The event was graced by the presence of prominent figures including Deputy Minister of Interior David Marial Gumbk and the Inspector General of Police’s accompanying delegation.
