Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Thursday donated two caged Lorries to South Sudan National Prison Services.

The trucks will facilitate the transportation of inmates to courts to ease access to justice and medical care.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held in Juba this morning, Lt. Gen. Henry Kuany, Director General of the National Prison Services commended the UNDP for the donation and promised that the vehicles will be used for the rightful purpose of transporting inmates to courts.

“This is great and I hope the two caged Lorries will facilitate the transportation of inmates to court and productive areas,” Kuany said.

Gen. Kuany disclosed that the trucks will be distributed to Juba Central Prison and Wau Central Prison to ease the transportation of inmates from one prison to another.

“The two caged Lorries are going to be distributed to Juba Central Prison and Wau Central Prison and for this, I want to assure that strict directives will be given to two state directors,” he said.

Dr. Samuel Doe, UNDP Resident Representative reaffirmed the UN Agency’s commitment to continue supporting Prison Services in the country.

“Director General requested from us that he need some trucks and these trucks will be used to convey the inmates from prisons to the court so that they would be able to have trial necessary,” Dr. Doe said.

“This will contribute to decongestion that would also contribute to rule of law and protect their justice right as well.”

He sounded hopeful that the caged trucks will be used for the intended purpose of transporting inmates from one prison to another.

“We are hoping and praying that the truck as we have seen with other equipment we contributed has been used for the intended purpose, we have no doubt that these trucks will be used for the intended purpose,” he said.
