South Sudan spy chief meets ex-Malong spokesman Deng Chapath

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Director General of Internal Security Bureau of South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) General Akol Koor Kuc on Tuesday met former spokesman of the South Sudan United Front (SSUF/A) Deng Chapath who defected to join the government from Gen. Paul Malong last month.

This comes only one week after Deng announced that he was resigning from General Paul Malong’s group and return to Juba, without making clear, what prompted his decision to leave Malong who he has once described as ‘King Paul’.

It remains unclear what the security chief discussed with the former rebel official.

Chapath became the fifth senior official to abandon Malong’s rebel movement, with analyst attributing the defections to the harsh economic situations in SSUF.

Other political observers, however, argued that government decided to win back favour from Malong’s close associates with a view that it would initiate dialogue.

Meanwhile, Malong appointed Garang Malual Deng Yak as the new Secretary of Information and Communication Technology and the spokesperson of SSUF/A.
