Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan and Uganda have reportedly signed a search and rescue (SAR) cooperation agreement to boost aviation safety in the two countries.
According to New Vision newspaper, South Sudan government representatives and Uganda’s Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) signed the agreement on Thursday, but more emphasis was put on the need for both countries to comply with it.
The agreement spells out collaborative rescue efforts by the two neighbors, in the event of an aviation accident.
It was signed by South Sudan’s Minister of Transport Madut Biar Yel, and Uganda’s Minister of Works General Katumba Wamala.
Mr. Wamala said “the government of Uganda is committed to support to our brothers and sisters in ensuring that the SAR requirements are in place.”
Search and Rescue (SAR) isa a service rendered to survivors of an airplane crash through distress monitoring, communication, coordination and search and rescue functions.
It also involves initial medical assistance or medical evacuation, through the use of public and private resources, including cooperating aircraft, vessels and other craft and installations.
