Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Vice President Hussein Abdelbaggi has encouraged South Sudanese to write the history of the country free of bias.
Abdelbaggi Ayii made the remarks during the launch of Arthur Akuein’s book in Juba on Sunday.
He says the history of South Sudan is written by foreigners and it’s time for the citizens to write their own.
“The History in the books and in learning institutions is written by foreigners. If we record our history properly, we will get the answers as to why people didn’t come together to contribute to the liberation struggle,” the Vice President said.
However, the Vice President in charge of the Service Cluster cautions researchers against writings that can disintegrate the country, but rather unite the people and keep the country together.
“If we are not careful in writing our history and rush to write our history in an extreme way, South Sudan will not be one,” said Hussein.
“We have to record our history in a manner that should not distort our image and we should not create problems among ourselves, but something that brings us together as one nation,” he said.
“If not, then South Sudan will be divided into regions and small entities and we will end up without South Sudan.”
