Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir has urged South Sudanese to embrace peace, harmony and progress as the nation marks 41 years of SPLA Day.

In his speech on SPLA Day, Kiir emphasised the significance of South Sudanese uniting to recognise and commemorate the critical role the Sudan People’s Liberation Army played in the country’s independence.

“As we commemorate SPLA Day, let us remember and honour all those who fought and sacrificed their lives for our nation’s freedom,” the head of state said.

“Let us strive to uphold the values of unity, peace, and progress for which they so bravely stood. Together, let us continue to build a prosperous and peaceful future for all the people of South Sudan,” Mr. Kiir stated.

He honoured the SPLA soldiers’ steadfast bravery and dedication, which cleared the path for the nation’s independence.

The President recalled how soldiers overcame hardship and made the greatest sacrifices to protect the freedom of all people.

“On this day, we salute the soldiers of the SPLA for their extraordinary value and resilience. Their dedication to the cause of freedom has left an indelible mark on the history of our nation, and we are forever grateful for their service and sacrifice,” he added.

He extended his deepest gratitude to the people of South Sudan for their unwavering support and solidarity during the liberation struggle.

“Our resilience, strength, and commitment to the cause of freedom were instrumental in our journey toward independence.”
