Africa-PressSouth-Sudan. The forces of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) and SPLA-IO forces based in Tambura County of Western Equatoria State on Monday as SSPDF accused SPLA-IO of running amok for unverified reasons.

According to reliable information received by Nyamilepedia, the Tambura county commissioner, Mathew Mabenge said fighting erupted between two forces on Monday morning after IO forces allegedly killed two men and were burning houses.

“On Monday, IO and the forces belonging to Nando clashed eight miles away from Tambura here when IO forces went and started burning, killing, and butchering two old men and burning houses. So the forces of Nando went to rescue the situation and the forces of IO started shooting but there were no more causalities,” Mabenge quoted by Radio Tamazuj to have claimed on Wednesday.

The fighting between rivaling forces left at least one soldier dead and two others wounded. The commissioner confirmed that one soldier was killed and two SSPDF soldiers were also injured in the clashes.

He also added that the injured soldiers have been transferred to Juba for treatment and believes that the situation has returned to normal after both forces were asked to evacuate the town within 72 hours by the commissioner.

“The situation seems to be normal because today (Wednesday), we had a meeting, both of them, forces of Nando and forces of Tertisio, we called upon them and we gave them 72 hours to evacuate Tambura,” he said.

Col. Lam Gabriel Paul, the military spokesman of SPLA-IO, when contacted said he had no idea about the alleged clashes. Tambura County has been engulfed by unabated conflicts for months that are mainly fueled by ethnic and clannish sentiments.
